Fiber Drawing Equipment

MARKSMAN FIBER DRAWING MACHINES

Custom made machines to extrude various compositions of fibers from polymeric precursors.  Allows the continuous drawing of fiber while the diameter of the spinnerette hole can be designed to fit application requirements.

CUSTOM FABRICATION

Because Chemat is the manufacturer, the Chemical Engineering staff will design and produce custom configurations based on your specific needs.

The "Marksman" is a positive displacement, piston type extruder. It is used for the manufacture of fine-scale ceramic fibers that can be extruded from polymerized spinnable precursors by the sol gel method.

Various ceramic fibers have been fabricated using this machine, including lead zirconium titanate(PZT), and Oxide, Alumina, and Carbide fibers.

Different speeds may be selected to produce varied diameters of fibers. The sample to be extruded, usually from 0.008" to 0.040" in diameter, and from 1" to 8" in length, is heated an even distribution of air as it is being extruded. Spinnerttes are usually supplied with 1-8 holes.

A level winder takes up the fiber. The winder bobbin speed can vary from a few RPM's to 3400 RPM's.

The "Marksman" is manufactured in Northridge, CA., USA, and is guaranteed for one year, parts and labor, against any defects in materials or workmanship.
