CHEMAT ANNOUNCES PATENT

Patent Number: 5,807,430Date of Patent: Sept. 15, 1998

Chemat Technology has been awarded a patent for developing a safe metal pretreatment solution for adhesive bonding   without Volatile Organic Compounds. Chemat's  pioneering efforts utilizing  the  sol-gel process has resulted in a novel solution for metal pretreatment   to  enhance adhesive bond performance.

This stable, water  based  product  is  designed  to  replace  many hazardous surface pretreatment solutions such as those found in the chemical etching or anodization processes.

Surfaces treated with this product   will   have   superior   adhesive  bonding at considerably   lower   cost in    comparison   with  other techniques. The solution adhesive bonding and offers mechanical properties and corrosion resistance.

Easily applied, this ready-to-use solution deposits a thin oxide layer on the metal surface through a simple "dip" or "spray" cure method.   The   product  has  an extended shelf life and is capable of cross linking when applied to a metal surface.
It  is  a  micron-thin  composition  that  forms  an  adherent   coating  that has a substantially   uniform  distribution  of  metal,  silicon,  and   oxygen throughout the thickness of the coating.

It is capable of bonding with the  material  to  be  fastened  to  a metal  surface forming  a  strong  adherent  bond  between  the  metal surface and the material.
Chemat Technology, Inc. foresees this product as a    tremendous   benefit to the aviation, aerospace, sporting goods, and construction industries to make adhesives bond better without compromising safety of the environment.
